The Mercedes-Benz W140 obtained a series of vehicle body kits manufactured by Wald International. The W140 is the first of the “next generation” Mercedes-Benz models to showcase new design themes from Wald. This design was adopted for the new 2001 C-Class. The exterior appearance of the W140 was revised in the form of grille on all hidden W140s compared to the exclusive grille planned on the top model, a feature which then spread throughout the Mercedes-Benz range to the mufler.
The W140 introduces innovations such as double-panel window panes, closure of electrical assistance for doors and trunk lid, electric windows that are lowered back down when facing obstructions, rear parking markers that rise from the rear wing (discontinued on the next vehicle, and replaced with parking assisted sonar) and a heating system which, if desired, continues to expel warm air after the engine has been shut down.
